Compounded medications are not FDA-approved — the FDA does not evaluate individual compounded preparations for safety, efficacy, or quality before they reach a patient. Compounding is only appropriate for a specific patient's medical need, as determined by a licensed prescriber, and is never a copy of a commercially available drug.
